Hiking areas

Viitasaari's landscape has plenty to offer visitors looking to explore the region on foot. Hikers can enjoy the beautiful scenery and diverse wildlife of the forest and lakeland terrain on signposted nature trails and from wooden observation towers. Take a trip to Karoliina's Stairway, an impressive natural flight of stone steps, or experience the unique atmosphere of the Heinä-Suvanto wetland nature reserve - a haven for more than a hundred bird species.

Savivuori Outdoor Activity & Ski Centre

Savivuori, just 1 km from the town centre, welcomes visitors throughout the year. Summer attractions include a forest jogging path, nature trail, orienteering routes, an observation tower, a forestry museum and a cafe. During the winter season Savivuori offers 3 downhill ski slopes, floodlit cross-country skiing tracks, a ski school, ski rentals and a grill/cafe.
