Water Recreation

The multitude of lakes, rapids and rivers in the Viitasaari region offer fantastic opportunities for all types of water recreation. The region's pure waters provide a range of excellent fishing grounds in some stunning settings. Whether planning to land a few fish or to simply soak up the beautiful lakeland scenery, you can get on the water easily by renting a rowing boat, canoe or kayak - or even your own small ferry complete with onboard sauna! Swimming

Few things beat a refreshing dip in the lake on a warm summer's day. Try one of the beaches in the town area: Pihkuri Beach close to Hotel Pihkuri (Kappelitie 5) or the beaches in the Miekkarinne and Kurkela areas, both around 2 kilometres from the town centre. There are also a number of countryside beaches in the villages throughout the municipality. If you fancy an indoor swim and saunas, head for the Simmari swimming pool centre. The pool complex offers five different pools, saunas, physiotherapy, a gym and a cafe.
